Event Detail
The 2027 Chongqing Marathon is the 15th edition of one of western China's major city marathons, with 26,000 places for a single 42.195K race. The event is technically certified by the Chinese Athletics Association and returns to Chongqing's Yangtze riverfront roads for a large-scale winter road race. Organiser figures released after the ballot show extraordinary demand: 256,639 people pre-registered from 32 countries and regions and 389 cities.
The course starts and finishes at Haitang Yanyu Park on Nanbin Road. Runners head towards the Chaotianmen Bridge area for the first turnaround, return past Haitang Yanyu Park, then continue across the Changjiang Bridge corridor towards Meidi Yacheng, Lijiatuo Bridge and the Ronghui Jiangshan turnaround before retracing the riverside route to the finish.
Race-day check-in begins at 07:00. The organiser will use a wave-start system, with detailed wave procedures to be issued before the race. Baggage must be checked before 07:40 using the official event bag, and post-race collection closes at 15:00. The overall course limit is six hours, supported by intermediate cut-offs including 55 minutes at 5K, 1:30 at 10K, 2:50 at 20K, 4:15 at 30K and 5:45 at 40K. Sweep-bus support is provided for runners who withdraw or miss a cut-off.
Public pre-registration ran from 2 to 13 September 2026, with entry results announced on 23 September. General applicants were required to have completed either one certified marathon or two certified half marathons between 14 September 2024 and 13 September 2026. The field combines public-ballot places, age-group performance qualifiers, Chongqing Marathon series guaranteed entries and sponsor/media allocations. Finishers inside the official time limit can download an official finisher certificate within 24 hours after the race, with certificates available for 90 days.
Reserved-series entry and award clarification
The ordinary public ballot has already closed. One narrowly eligible series direct-entry route remains: the top 500 men and 500 women in the 2026 Chongqing (Changjiahui) Half Marathon may claim their reserved 2027 Chongqing Marathon place by registering and paying on the official race website 13–20 November 2026, provided they satisfy the 2027 eligibility rules. Missing that window forfeits this reserved-series place. It is not a new open-entry registration period. The 2027 organiser's rules distinguish overall prizes in US dollars from additional Chinese-national awards in yuan, with non-cumulative highest-award rules for overlapping categories. Full conditions are in the official 2027 registration guide and competition regulations.
