Event Detail
The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon returns on 17 January 2027 with a record main-race quota of 78,000 runners. Organised by the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates, it is one of Asia's major mass-participation road races and uses a challenging point-to-point city course linking Kowloon, the New Territories and Hong Kong Island.
The marathon starts on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and finishes in Victoria Park. The established route takes runners across major bridges, tunnels and expressways before the final approach to Causeway Bay. The marathon has a six-hour full-course limit. Marathon Challenge runners start at 06:00, followed by Marathon Run 1 at 06:25 and Run 2 at 06:50. The half marathon and 10K are also held on Sunday, while separate youth and harbourfront events form part of the wider race weekend.
Entry to the main races uses priority entry and a public ballot. Marathon participants must be aged 20 or over in 2027 and have completed a 10K-or-longer race between 1 January 2025 and 31 August 2026. Estimated finishing times are used when allocating race categories and starts. The ordinary public ballot is CLOSED. It ran from 11 September at 14:00 until 20 September 2026 at 19:00 Hong Kong time. First-round ballot payments closed on 2 October and second-round payments closed on 10 October. These are not general new-entry windows.
Other registration routes and important dates
The organiser separately lists disability and wheelchair race registration until 30 October 2026 at 19:00, and charity-programme runner registration and RUN • STAY • DINE package registration until 6 November 2026 at 23:59, subject to capacity and each programme's own eligibility and requirements. Therefore the ordinary marathon/half/10K public ballot is closed, but some special entry routes may still be open. Check the organiser's actual registration page before making payment.
The official schedule also confirms Runner's Pack collection from 13 to 16 January 2027; collection emails are expected in late December with reservation arrangements in early January. The separate Youth Run takes place on 16 January, with the main marathon, half marathon, 10K and wheelchair races on 17 January 2027.
Finishers within the designated time limit receive a finisher medal and e-certificate. Challenge-race athletes compete for substantial prize money, including a USD 65,000 first prize for both the men's and women's marathon winners and additional awards for eligible HKAAA-registered athletes.
