Event Detail
The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 5km Harbourfront Run debuts on Saturday 16 January 2027, the day before the main marathon. It is a non-competitive, approximately 5 km waterfront run from Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground along Kai Tak Promenade to Kai Tak Sports Park Dining Cove, overlooking Victoria Harbour. The field is capped at 4,500 participants and the organiser publishes a 60-minute course limit.
Start waves and eligibility
The organiser schedules three waves at 8:00am, 8:15am and 8:30am Hong Kong time; entrants must attend their assigned wave. Individual ballot applicants must turn 16 or older during 2027. Family ballot teams have two to four members, including a team captain aged at least 18 and at least one youngster aged 6–15. Wheelchair entrants must be at least 16 and supply the required proof of disability; their wheelchairs must satisfy organiser specifications. Anyone registering for the 5K cannot also enter the Saturday Youth Run.
Registration: important 26 October deadline
Individual and family ballot applications close Monday 26 October 2026 at 12:00 noon Hong Kong time (04:00 UTC). The advertised entry charge is HKD 300. The organiser's first ballot results and payment window are 29 October at 2pm to 2 November at noon; second-round results/payment are 6 November at 2pm to 9 November at noon. Failure to pay within an allotted window voids the application.
Wheelchair deadline conflict, verified 24 October 2026: The official 5K information page gives 27 November 2026 at 11:59pm HKT, or earlier if the quota fills, but both the organiser's main website and its linked live booking portal show 26 October at noon for wheelchair entries too. Do not rely on the later date without checking the live booking channel and obtaining organiser confirmation. Because these entry types have different published deadlines, ARC does not assign an unsupported single event-wide closing timestamp.
Race pack, rules and participant support
The entry package includes an event T-shirt and timing chip. Runners who finish in their assigned category within the time limit receive a finisher medal and electronic certificate. The chip does not need to be returned.
Successful applicants should receive a race-pack collection email containing their bib details and QR code from late December 2026. If you cannot access it by 7 January 2027, contact the organiser promptly on +852 2577 0800. Collection is scheduled for 13–15 January at Kai Tak Sports Park, with the exact location and daily hours still to be announced. Bring the QR-coded collection email and follow the assigned collection slot.
Places are non-transferable. Medical withdrawal requests require supporting evidence and must reach entry_hkmarathon@hkaaa.com by 15 January 2027 at 11pm HKT; a HKD 100 administration charge applies to approved refunds. The organiser says the race will be cancelled if tropical cyclone warning signal No. 3 or above or a red/black rainstorm warning is in effect at 6am or later on race day. Check official messages and the final route guidance before travelling.
