Event Detail

The Kaga Spa Trail Endurance 100 by UTMB 2027 runs through the forests, mountain trails and hot-spring scenery around Yamanaka Onsen in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, on 19–20 June 2027. This third edition belongs to the international UTMB World Series. Each of the three point-to-point races finishes at the historic Yamanaka-za venue, passing the Kakusenkei Gorge area and Yuge Kaido near the finish. The onsen district makes an appealing base for visiting runners, but prepare for difficult mountain terrain and potentially humid June weather.

2027 races, actual lengths and starts (all Japanese local time)

  • KAGASPA 100K: The name is a UTMB category, while the measured race is actually 97.4 km, climbing 5,122 metres. It starts Saturday 19 June at 18:30 from Yukemuri Kenkou Village, Yamanaka Onsen with waves until 18:55. The maximum time is 27 hours; the final official finish cut-off is Sunday 20 June at 21:55. Eligible finishers earn three Running Stones.
  • KAGASPA 50K: The official headline lists 56.8 km, while the detailed course table lists 56.7 km, with 2,607 metres of climbing. It starts Sunday 20 June at 05:00 from Yukemuri Kenkou Village, with waves until 05:25. The 14-hour limit and Sunday 19:25 cut-off apply. Eligible finishers earn two Running Stones.
  • KAGASPA 20K: This course covers 20.7 km with 649 metres of climbing. It starts Saturday 19 June at 08:00 from Kenmin no Mori (Prefectural Forest), not the 100K/50K start venue, and has a six-hour limit and 14:10 finish cut-off. The organiser schedules a free shuttle departing Yamanaka Bus Terminal at 06:00. Eligible finishers earn one Running Stone. ARC has no exact 20.7K structured distance; it is documented accurately here rather than incorrectly shown as a half marathon.

The overall listing start time represents the earliest 20K flag-off on Saturday. The displayed main start marker is Yukemuri Kenkou Village, where the 100K and 50K begin. All categories finish at Yamanaka-za. Individual wave times and intermediate aid-station cut-offs are strictly enforced; consult official race-specific timetables rather than relying only on total time limits.

Registration, published entry fees and ages

General entry opened 22 October 2026. The official registration deadline is 31 March 2027, 23:59 JST, or earlier if places sell out. No UTMB Index is required to register, although index holders received priority access. Minimum ages are 18 for the 100K and 50K and 16 for the 20K. A current-edition Japanese registration guide lists total prices of JPY 47,000 (100K), 34,000 (50K) and 19,000 (20K) including stated tax and processing fees. Confirm the final payable price at the live UTMB checkout because the English organiser page does not provide a complete fee table.

Standard entries cannot be deferred to another year. Without optional cancellation cover, the organiser ordinarily provides no refund. Cover costs an additional 15% of the race fee and must be selected during registration. Distance changes can be requested through 18 April 2027 if space permits. Transfers may carry a fee and have earlier restrictions; read the registration terms before entry.

Bib collection, gear and support

The official 2027 timetable requires photo ID for collection and check-in at Kaga Onsen Station Square. For all distances, collection is advertised Thursday 17 June, 13:00–17:30, and Friday 18 June, 10:00–17:30. An additional window on Saturday 19 June is available for 100K 10:00–14:00 and 50K 10:00–17:30. Do not assume bib collection is available immediately before the 20K start. A dedicated event expo is planned at the station square.

The organiser provides an athlete T-shirt, designated aid stations, insurance, on-course medical support and a post-finish meal; medals and digital certificates depend on successful completion. A mid-course 100K drop bag is planned at Kenmin no Mori and finish drop bags can be left at the Yamanaka-za parking area under race timetable rules. Mandatory equipment applies, especially overnight for the longer races; refer to the official kit and bear-safety instructions for updates. Conditions and route arrangements may change for safety reasons.

Visiting and final checks

Plan separate transfers between Kaga Onsen Station Square (expo/check-in), Yukemuri Kenkou Village (100K/50K starts), Kenmin no Mori (20K start) and Yamanaka-za (all finishes). The official schedule is more reliable than older websites describing 2026 or earlier course layouts. The official 2027 programme verifies all three dates and starts despite isolated old-date typos elsewhere on the organiser's site.
