Event Detail

The 30th Itabashi City Marathon takes place on Sunday 21 March 2027 beside the Arakawa River in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo. The popular 42.195 km marathon runs from the riverside event ground upstream of Toda Bridge towards Arakawa Bridge in Edogawa before returning. The out-and-back course is certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations and World Athletics and is a World Rankings competition. Its exceptionally flat riverside layout attracts runners chasing personal bests as well as first-time marathoners, with seven hours allowed to finish.

Race-day programme (Japan time)

  • 09:00: Marathon, JAAF registered and general entrants start together, allocated to starting blocks by declared times.
  • 09:30: 1 km Family Run.
  • 09:40: 1 km Wheelchair event.
  • 09:55: 3 km junior event for middle-school students.
  • 10:10: 5 km general and high-school categories.

Marathon intermediate cut-offs apply at halfway (12:30) and 38.6 km (15:30), ahead of the 16:00 overall finish deadline. The 5 km limit is one hour, the junior 3 km limit is 30 minutes and the 1 km categories have 10-minute limits. The Family Run and wheelchair categories are not chip-timed.

Entry and eligibility

Registration opened on 1 September 2026 and normally closes 4 December 2026 at 23:59 JST, or sooner when capacity fills. The main marathon field is limited to 10,000 runners. Marathon entrants must be at least 19 years old on race day; the high-school 5 km, junior 3 km, family and wheelchair events have separate eligibility rules. Most categories use first-come online registration through RUNNET, while 1 km wheelchair applications are handled directly by the committee. Additional premium marathon and Itabashi resident/hometown-tax entry pathways are advertised. Service/administration fees apply on top of the Japanese entry amounts; the organiser's English-language overseas entry route may show a different marathon fee, so check the actual payment portal.

Registration availability is time-sensitive. On 22 October 2026, the organiser warned that its general marathon category was approaching capacity. The special first-marathon support entry category has already closed. Do not assume the general category remains open simply because the published closing date has not passed.

Practical information

The race village is on the Arakawa riverbed upstream of Toda Bridge on National Route 17, near Funado 3-chome. The location pin is approximate: use the organiser's access map for the final entrance. There is no participant parking. The organiser recommends public transport: approximately 15 minutes on foot from Ukima-Funado Station (JR Saikyō Line) or Hasune Station (Toei Mita Line), or five minutes from the Funado Shōgakkō bus stop.

Japanese-route race bibs, timing chips and participant materials are scheduled for postal delivery in early March 2027, rather than a conventional race expo; the organiser's English-entry arrangements may require race-day collection, so entrants should follow instructions specific to their booking. Marathon finishers receive a medal and downloadable digital finishing certificate. The event includes awards by division and age group, plus select pathways towards the Tokyo and Kanazawa marathons. Read the race rules on the official website before registering, especially transfer, eligibility, equipment and cancellation provisions.

Race Pack Information

The organiser plans to mail the athlete bib, timing chip and participation items in early March 2027. Family Run and wheelchair participants will not receive a timing chip. No standard expo pickup is listed; check the official participant guide for any category-specific exceptions.
