Event Detail
The Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon 2026 returns to Batu Kawan on Sunday, 13 December 2026, starting and finishing in the Aspen Vision City precinct. This is one of Penang's signature mass-participation races, bringing runners from Malaysia and overseas to an unusual setting: the long road bridge linking mainland Penang with the island. The state tourism authorities organise the event with the backing of the Penang State Government, and the marathon is an AIMS member race.
The bridge-running experience
The event has moved to the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge, also known as the Second Penang Bridge, with the race village on the Batu Kawan mainland side. The open bridge environment gives runners expansive water views and a distinctive overnight-to-sunrise race atmosphere. It also leaves participants exposed to the elements; prepare for tropical humidity and possible wind rather than assuming ideal conditions for a personal-best attempt.
The race programme includes a full marathon, half marathon and 10K, with separate competitive Elite Runner challenges for the marathon and half marathon. The race starts early on Sunday morning: 01:30 for the marathon, 03:00 for the half marathon and 06:30 for the 10K, all Penang local time (MYT, UTC+8). These are the organiser's published 2026 times. Ordinary race cut-offs are seven hours, three hours 30 minutes and one hour 30 minutes, respectively. Eligibility and stricter qualifying standards apply to the elite challenges; only entrants in the designated elite categories qualify for cash prizes.
Race-day planning
Batu Kawan is on Penang's mainland rather than in George Town, so participants staying on the island should arrange transport for the unusual overnight assembly times and check official bridge road closures, parking and access arrangements. The organiser has not yet published a complete current-edition site/route map on its route-map page, so treat historic maps as provisional and follow the eventual 2026 participant instructions.
All three main distances have an event running vest. The organiser specifically conditions the finisher medal and finisher T-shirt on completing within the category cut-off, so they are not guaranteed merely by starting. Race-pack collection is offered at Klippa Shopping Centre (27–29 November), Aspen House in George Town (4–6 December) and Aspen Vision City (10–12 December), with different collection hours; check the dedicated Race Pack Information section before setting out.
Registration and latest notices
The 2026 entry window has closed. The official registration/login landing page currently reads “To be announced” rather than displaying an active 2026 entry form; this is not evidence of a new registration opening. Runners who already hold an entry should use the official website for race pack instructions, parking updates and the final route or any safety announcements. See the 2026 race details, route/site map updates and organiser's homepage.
Transport and shuttle checkpoints
The organiser's Getting Here page identifies Rapid Penang shuttle pick-up points at Icon City (behind Iconic Hotel), Batu Kawan Stadium bus stop and Design Village on the mainland, and Komtar CAT bus stop (Jalan Ria) and Queensbay Mall on Penang Island. Its published guide currently displays indicative fares of RM10 from the mainland and RM20 from the island, but does not clearly confirm a complete 2026 shuttle schedule. Verify operating times, booking requirements and final fares directly with the organiser before race night. The same page contains a 2025-only Grab promotion, which should not be used for the 2026 race. Collection of race packs closes 14:00 on Saturday 12 December at Aspen Vision City, ahead of the overnight marathon start.
