Event Detail
Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB 2026 is an international trail-running festival in northern Thailand and the Asia-Pacific Major within the UTMB World Series. The event programme runs across two race areas, beginning at Doi Inthanon National Park before moving to Chiang Mai PAO Park for the second weekend. Race distances range from 17 km to 173 km, with short warm-up runs also scheduled.
The opening weekend at Doi Inthanon includes two 57 km races, a 20 km race and a 5 km warm-up. The longer route uses high mountain terrain around Doi Hua Suea, Doi Pha Tang, the Twin Royal Pagodas and the summit area of Doi Inthanon. The 20 km route follows a shorter mountain loop and includes the Ban Mae Klang Luang rice-terrace area.
The second weekend includes the 173 km CHIANG DAO 160, the roughly 100 km ELEPHANT 100, two 63 km races, two 26 km races, a 17 km race and a 3 km warm-up. CHIANG DAO 160 starts at Wat Tham Chiang Dao and finishes at Chiang Mai PAO Park after extensive mountain running, while ELEPHANT 100 starts at Wat Nong Bua Noi and also finishes at the PAO Park.
Published time limits include 16 hours 30 minutes for the 57 km races, seven hours for the 20 km race, 28 hours for ELEPHANT 100 and 48 hours for CHIANG DAO 160. Registration is scheduled to close on 31 October 2026 at 10:00 local time unless places sell out earlier. Major status means finishers receive double Running Stones compared with regular UTMB World Series events, and selected races also provide Finals Access.
Current entry fees include THB 8,600 for ELEPHANT 100 and THB 9,800 for CHIANG DAO 160. Prize money is published for CHIANG DAO 160, ELEPHANT 100 and the daytime 57 km race, with equal men's and women's awards from EUR 5,000 for first place to EUR 1,000 for fifth. Runners should check the official event pages before travelling for the latest GPX files, aid-station details, equipment requirements and race-week instructions because these operational details can be updated closer to race day.
