The 2026 Eastern Lanna Four Cities Run (วิ่งเลาะเวียง 4 เมืองล้านนาตะวันออก) reaches Wiang Thoeng in Chiang Rai on 7-8 November, with the main race day on Sunday 8 November. This is Stage 3 of a four-stop series celebrating the historic northern Thai communities of Wiang Song in Phrae, Wiang Sa in Nan, Wiang Thoeng in Chiang Rai and Wiang Phayao in Phayao. It is a cross-provincial public tourism and wellness initiative rather than a separate commercial marathon brand.
The official 2026 programme advertises four distances at every stage: a 42 km marathon, 21 km half marathon, 5 km fun run and a 2.5 km Kilo Run. The shorter Kilo Run is a cultural 'run, eat and explore' experience, designed to introduce local food and community history alongside the competitive races.
For Wiang Thoeng, organiser-linked race information places the meeting/start-and-finish area at Wiang Thoeng School (also described as Thoeng Thamnupracha School) in Thoeng district, around 19.6876°N, 100.1913°E. Distance-specific flag-off times, route maps and cut-offs have not been independently confirmed; entrants should obtain the final schedule directly from the organiser. Saturday 7 November is advertised for race-bib and shirt collection; the precise collection hours and Kilo Run schedule should be checked in the final participant briefing.
Participation was announced as free, with a THB 300 refundable attendance deposit per participant per stage, subject to the organiser's conditions. That deposit is not a non-refundable race entry fee. The official four-stage registration system currently says capacity has been reached and registrations are closed. Originally the organiser expected at least 850 runners and supporters per stop, aiming to distribute visitor spending beyond the region's main cities through health tourism, historical attractions, local shops and community activities. This is a planned target rather than a final attendance count.
Runners travelling from Chiang Rai city should allow extra time for the trip to Thoeng district and check official transport, parking, eligibility, prize and kit-collection instructions before departure. The date, distances and series identity are confirmed from current-edition Thai government releases and organiser-linked race listings; exact distance-specific flag-offs remain to be published.
