Event Detail

The 2027 SALOMON Hong Kong Dynamic Challenge brings two demanding mountain ultramarathons to the trails around Shing Mun Reservoir, Tai Mo Shan and the New Territories on 2–3 January 2027. Both the 50K and 100K start and finish at Shing Mun Reservoir's main dam in Tsuen Wan. Although the names are rounded distance labels, the organiser publishes precise course lengths and considerable elevation gain.

Choose your challenge

50K, Saturday 2 January: approximately 49.3 km with 2,485 m ascent, starting at 08:00 Hong Kong time. The course limit is 13 hours, with a final finish cut-off at 21:00 Saturday. Official intermediate cut-offs include Tai Mo Shan Kiosk at 11:15 (13.2 km), Ng Tung Chai at 17:00 (32.9 km) and Wun Yiu at 18:30 (41 km).

100K, Saturday 2 to Sunday 3 January: approximately 98.2 km with 5,753 m ascent, starting at 09:00 Saturday. The limit is 30 hours, with the latest finish at 15:00 Sunday. The checkpoint timetable travels through Tai Mo Shan, Ng Tung Chai, Fung Ying Seen Koon, San Uk Tsai, Bride's Pool Road, Hok Tau Reservoir and Wun Yiu before returning to Shing Mun. Late arrivals at intermediate cut-offs cannot assume permission to continue.

Both events have men's and women's individual age divisions, plus two-person mixed teams. Team members must remain together and pass checkpoints together; the result is recorded when the second runner arrives. The organiser lists both 50K and 100K as eligible races for the 2027 UTMB qualifying framework and as ITRA Index events. Check the official linked GPX tracks and elevation profiles when planning pacing and support.

Compulsory kit and self-sufficiency

The organiser may check equipment anywhere on the course. Each runner must carry:

  • A working mobile telephone, two headlamps or torches with batteries, and a whistle.
  • An emergency space blanket and containers with at least 1.5 litres of water capacity.
  • Two energy bars or portions of food, some cash and a visible race bib.
  • A rubbish bag, a reusable drinking cup, and eating utensils. Disposable cups are not supplied at checkpoints.

Missing mandatory kit can lead to time penalties or disqualification. Additional warm clothing, spare batteries and first aid supplies are recommended for the long overnight sections of the 100K. The 100K has a drop-bag facility at the Fung Ying Seen Koon 42.4 km checkpoint and at the finish, with organiser rules governing collection and disposal.

Regulations and travel

Race bibs and entries are non-transferable, and organisers do not accept changes of race category or distance. Fees are non-refundable, including where severe weather, route closures or other specified safety hazards cause cancellation. The organiser carries public liability insurance, not individual accident insurance for runners; participants are advised to arrange personal accident cover. Pacers, shortcuts and unofficial course-side assistance are prohibited, apart from emergency support and food or drinks purchased from shops. Tell the nearest checkpoint official if withdrawing.

For transport, the organiser suggests minibus 82 from Siu Wo Street in Tsuen Wan, or a taxi from Tsuen Wan MTR. Check the official race site and registration platform for the latest entry availability, race-pack collection details, route revisions and pre-race instructions. The organiser has not confirmed a precise universal registration cut-off time in the accessible event information.
